Rain is not kind to full blooms

I was out of town last week and missed the annual unveiling of my largest tree peony. By the time I’d returned they were on the wane and several steady showers finished the show. What is a glorious, 6″ strawberry daiquiri pink bloom with a 2″ core of golden stamens is now but a memory.

All is not lost, however, as a new arrival (planted last year at the end of the season) was on a different timetable. I’d purchased it not knowing exactly what it would look like – you can’t trust the sun-faded placards at the nurseries – and I’m happy to see that it too is a lovely deep pink!

An early dawn shower left the plants sparkling with droplets, so I switched over to the macro lens. I only had time for a few quick snaps before it was time for my 8:00 meeting.
